- Splash Pad: We love a splash pad or water table in the summer! Whether you’re playing at home (even an old fashioned sprinkler works great) or going to a local one, this is a great way to cool off! I also love splash pads and water tables because they are wonderful for toddlers who may be hesitant around water, it’s a wonderful way for them to experience water play without having to be in a pool.
- Ice Cream Sundae Bar: This can be a fun activity outside, or on a rainy summer day. You and your toddlers can set up your favorite ice creams and toppings and create your own ice cream sundaes, you can even invite some friends over to enjoy as well! If you don’t want to introduce ice cream, cool whip or other frozen treats work just as well.
- Camping Time: Camping can be a fun family activity, but if you don’t want to plan a camping trip away this summer you can camp in your back yard or living room! Set up a small toddler tent outside and have them bring their favorite stuffies with them. Another option is to set up a blanket fort inside on a rainy day and make some of your favorite camping snacks (s’mores and ants on a log come to mind).
- Popsicle Party: This is another activity that can be tailored to your own preferences. Whether you want to grab some store bought popsicles, put on some music and cool off that way or you can get some popsicle molds and make them that way. Homemade popsicles are a great way to engage your little one in a fun activity that really pays off! It can also be wonderful for teaching colors, counting, etc.
- Summer Sensory Bin: We love a good sensory bin at this house! You can use kinetic sand, plastic sea animal toys, and blue pompoms for a fun ocean themed one. Also, using kinetic sand, play camping toys, and plastic trees would be a great one to wrap up your camping day!
