Spring Activities for Toddlers

Spring time is here and in upstate NY that means we get outside as much as possible! Although most days may still have some rain or chilly weather, I’m so excited to take advantage of the weather turning. Here are five things I plan to do with my toddlers this season:

  1. Have a picnic – Whether it’s in a nearby park, in the back yard, or inside on a rainy day a picnic is always a fun way to have a meal. It can also be a great way to explore seasonal foods with your toddler. They will love being inside or outdoors and having a special meal with you.
  2. Plant flowers, herbs, or vegetables together – Get some small plants or seeds and let your toddler help you plant them in a garden or pot. They will love getting their hands dirty and watching the plants grow.
  3. Go on walk at a local trail or nature hike – Take a walk on a nearby trail or through a local park and explore nature with your toddler. Look for birds, insects, and flowers, and let them collect leaves and rocks along the way. Have your toddler identify the colors and sounds they see. Nature walks can be a wonderful learning opportunity!
  4. Have a bubble party – Fill a bucket with bubble solution and let your toddler have fun blowing and chasing bubbles in the backyard. You can also buy bubble wands or machines to make it even more exciting. Another fun way to incorporate bubbles is a bubble lawn mower!
  5. Splash in puddles – This is always fun after a rainy or stormy day. Put some rain boots and a rain coat on and find the best puddles to splash in! You can also talk about all of the insects, flowers, or sights you see after a storm.
